The file 'Antique Puzzle Ball (c1820 Design) 3D Printer Model' is (stl) file type, size is 1.7MB.

Summary

A puzzle ball with hidden inner container based on a 200 year old design (history below). To open press the concealed button, then slide out the core container and remove the lid. Due to the close tolerances in the design the button and lid are not easy to spot on my make, making the design quite puzzling.

As a modern twist I have printed the proto in silk gold (PLA+) filament. Perhaps could hide a small 3D printed object inside the container as a surprise.

The size is 50mm diameter which was typical of the original item. Parts fit together well. The lid is designed to be a friction fit to both the core container and the ball body.

There are 3 parts/files to print. The main ball requires (central) support and brim to print. For the other 2 parts supports are optional (if you have good bridging), but brim is recommended. Suggest to use 3 walls (1.2mm wall thickness) and 20% infill. I used 0.2mm layer height.

History: Similar balls were made (lathe turned) out of wood in England around 1820 and the container inside was used to hold snuff or pills. They were often made in lignum vitae (a dense and hard wood) or ebony (a dense black wood). There were also versions made to hold gold sovereigns.
