Just in time for Halloween, it's a Tomato Head mask based on the popular skin in Fortnite! This is big enough to wear and will be part of my full Tomato Head costume. Please see important notes below:
This is intended for large printers only. It is scaled to the maximum X/Y dimensions of a Lulzbot TAZ5 and still just barely fits my slightly-larger-than-average adult head. It should also fit on a Creality CR-10, TEVO Little Monster, and similar printers with 300mm+ bed sizes. I definitely do not recommend trying to slice it up to fit on a smaller printer unless you really like gluing, sanding, and repainting things.
At the current size, the bottom opening is an oval measuring 195mm on the short axis and 209mm on the long axis. I recommend that you cut an oval this size out of a piece of cardboard and make sure your head fits through it prior to printing. Please note that if you have a large head you may wish to scale the main model up (if you can) or in your slicer remove the bottom 1-2mm to make the opening larger.
I printed everything at 0.15mm layer height, 40mm/s speed and it took right around 3.5 days to complete all the parts. If you care less about quality you can speed it up and bump up the layer height.
The main head only requires supports in the front of the mouth with supports from the build plate (see pic on the build plate). I did custom supports in Simplify3D to accomplish this. You can add more supports if you want, but it just adds print time and cleanup hassle.
The mustache prints best with a raft and supports since it has little contact with the build plate.
The eyebrows and stem print flat.
If you don't have red, green, and brown filament you could print everything one color and then paint it. In my case I had red and green, but not brown so I painted the mustache and eyebrows before gluing them on. The teeth and eyes need to be painted regardless - I used white acrylic paint I had lying around, but if you're good at masking things you could also use spray paint. For added detail, you can paint the teeth separation line black and the "gums" brown like I did to match the in-game skin.
The stem prints flat, but the in-game model has bent leaves. To accomplish this effect, grab a blow torch or heat gun (you can use a lighter, but I don't recommend it since it will leave soot on the plastic) and heat up the leaves a bit, then bend them into the shape you want and hold them there until they cool. You might want to practice this with some spare plastic if you haven't done it before.
I used hot glue to assemble everything. The stem should lay flat on the top "hole" and glue in easily, then you can place the mustache and eyebrows however you want.
