This is an accurate scale model I’ve made of one of the first steam locomotives ever built - the Trevithick’s steam locomotive (1802 - more information at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Trevithick). The Coalbrookdale Company in Shropshire, England constructed it for Trevithicks. I have included one of the original engineering drawings I used to create it.
This is an enhanced version on the same locomotive I posted here two weeks ago ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4824543).
But, this one has the piston and slider assembly included. If you are building it for a younger child you might want to build the other one as there are fewer breakable structures on that one. Most of the parts are the same, but the main body, piston, and firedoor have been altered to match the original engineering drawings to accommodate the cross slide.
The gears and wheel turn, and have the appropriate number of teeth and gear ratios. The piston moves as intended.
I have designed this for an easy build, using clip-on retainers on the axles to help align all the gears. You will find the assembly instructions in the summary below.
