Summary

3D scan of the southern elephant seal, Mirounga leoninae, created by the Natural History Museum of Vienna under license CC Attribution-NonCommercial. This specimen is from the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean and became part of the collection of the NHM Vienna in 1901. Very few museums own a specimen this large, even fewer have one that is more than 100-years-old!

The original and more information can be found at sketchfab / NHMWien, the following changes were made:

  • Geometry decimated from ~ 250k triangles to ~ 65k
  • downsized to 2% of the original size
  • object aligned and the bottom side cut flat
  • STL file repaired / fixed

Note: Layer Height 0.1mm recommended so that the teeth come out well. Support required.
