Summary

Modified in... Microsoft 3d Builder for my own specifications for a personal build, sharing in case it is useful to others. Apologies in advance for extraneous geometry.

Modifications:

  • Scaled down to 85% (now about 5'8" or 173cm).

  • The handle was also made about twice as thick to be more sturdy, with the pommel and guard having their openings made larger to accommodate. Thickened the first part of the guard that the handle inserts into and made it a bit longer to accommodate the thicker handle.

  • Also added holes in the handle and blade to allow for the insertion of either 1/4" steel rods or wooden dowels. It accommodates three 1/4" rods: one in the handle that is 660mm long, one in the blade that is also 660mm long, and another in the blade that is 480mm long. I used steel rods from a hardware store, either smooth or threaded is fine, just had to make sure they were relatively straight.

  • Had to re-split and re-join some pieces of the blade - as the rods are angled a bit in the blade to ensure there is room for them, the blade pieces needed to be split and given new connecting blocks so that the connecting blocks were perpendicular to the rods, allowing pieces to be slid on along the rod and joined.

  • Printed piece joint tolerances set in the model at 0.3mm, the rod length tolerance is about 3mm.

  • Renumbered everything as personally I found it best to work from the pommel up with regards to making sure tolerances and everything were right.

Off my MK4 I'm happy with the tolerances and overall rigidity of it before gluing. Need to paint and wrap the handle still. Included are also the .3mf files for the ENTIRE sword - one without the holes in the blade and one with them, in case you need to resize the model and then re-cut out the holes. (I would have had one with no holes in either the blade or handle but accidentally deleted that version - oops - shouldn't be that hard to undo if you need to though)
