Summary

This is a color coded and before and after print customizable storage box for nozzles and heat breaks. No matter if you want to organize your nozzles by diameter, materials you use them with, they are made of or even how many you have in each category – this box can be adapt for you needs even after printing. All parts are reusable even if your needs change.

The following should be found out before starting:

  • types/groups you want to organize them (diameter, materials you use them with, they are made of, etc.)
  • number of nozzles and heat breaks in each group
  • dimensions of the nozzles and heat breaks (be generous and round up for easy fit)

The following can be adjusted in the model:

  • nozzle module dimensions (total hight, threaded hight and diameter)
  • heat break module dimensions (diameter and length)
  • size of the box (clearance, number of rows and columns) Consider that heat break module might use the space for 3 or more nozzles and maybe leave some extra space to fill with empty nozzle modules – at least for the nozzle in your printer.

The following can be adjusted before/during printing:

  • number of modules (nozzles and heat breaks)
  • your personal color code by choice of filament (or paint after printing)

The following can be adjusted after printing:

  • actual arrangement in the box
  • if you have to store more nozzles print more modules and a bigger box, move the existing modules to the new box and reuse the old one for something else

box

You can adjust the modules if they don’t fit or in the worst case use the box for something else and print a new one with more clearance. I personally like to see what’s inside box without having to open it so maybe consider using translucent filament.

modules

I decided to give the hole for the nozzles some extra room and no threading for easy remove and insertion. (Let the nozzles cool down before inserting them into the box if you remove them from a heated up hotend.) So don’t flip the open box upside down or you’ll end with a complete mess. Since I have nozzles with different length I went with the longest for all nozzle modules. You also might want to print a second box if you have nozzles for a different hotend. For the heat breaks consider that they need more space in the box. Use your personal color code by choice of filament or paint after printing for better organization.
