I was following an RP Archive tutorial for dungeon tiles, but I was using 5x2mm magnets to be cheap. I was having trouble precisely installing them. I designed this jig to hold magnets in place while the hot glue solidifies. This jig ensured all the magnets can be set in place with maximum surface area exposed to make better contact with each other and no glue gets between them.
Assembly Steps:
- Print the jig and the latch, and use Ironing in your slicer so the joint turns out smooth.
- Use super glue to attach the latch to the rest of the jig, make sure it closes around a tile with tension.
- Press fit and or glue the magnets into the jig in the right orientation, ie North on each right side and South on each left.
Use Steps:
- Make your holes in the 3x3x1/2 in xps foam 1/2 in from each side. This can be done with a drill bit twisted in reverse by hand and or the nozzle of a hot glue gun.
- Place a thin strip of parchment paper around the walls of the jig, then place a magnet on each of the jig's magnets so they pinch the parchment paper between them.
- Fill all of the holes in the tile with hot glue and quickly put it into the jig, locking it closed.
- Finally set it aside to cool for a few minutes, before opening the jig.
