Summary

Completely customizable round pool skimmer basket. I created this because it's likely cheaper to print a high quality basket than to buy a cheap flimsy one.

This openscad file allows you to print a skimmer basket for pretty much any pool that utilizes a round basket. This basket prints in two parts to avoid need for supports, and interfaces with each other at an angle (default 45degrees), allowing it to work without gluing or use zip ties, and just for stronger support if you do choose to glue them together.

It comes in two configurations for printing, default is with the rim is detached from basket, and the alternative is with the base detached. The base detached option offers the benefit of reduced interface area and reduced forces on it, making it more durable, and easier to zip tie together, but if it does fail in the interface area, it can result in large debris going into your pipes. The rim detached version has a much larger interface area and needs to support more weight, hence slightly higher chance of failure, but even if it fails, the basket will still hold debris. The rim detached version also currently won't as work well with zip ties, but it generally stays in place without glue, especially if you use a skimmer basket sock.

Recommend printing with wall lines set to 50 or infill at 100% primarily for increased weight, hence density. Otherwise, you will need weights to keep the basket submerged.

The example STLs are for a Hayward SP1070E with 1cm rim, 21cm top diameter including rim, 14.5cm bottom diameter and 13cm height. This default basket has a 4mm thickness, weights 333g, and feels very durable. You can probably get by with 3mm thickness, and maybe even 2.5mm if you want to save on filament.

It should also be noted that customizer does not handle small holes very well, likely due to the increase in polygons. For baskets with many small holes, you will need to use openscad software to generate stl.
