The file '3D Printed Chainmail 3D Printer Model' is (stl) file type, size is 14.3MB.
I've spent over 20 years making chainmail out of steel and various other metals but it always suffered from the same issue... too heavy to wear every day. With the help of a 3D printer and a lot of trial and error, I have been able to create a printable, repeatable, and light weight chainmail pattern.
I have also designed a ring that can be used to join multiple pieces together to make bigger pieces. Using only a soldering iron to "Weld" the ends closed.
There are only two files. You will have to either modify or print and remove rings from the sheet.
If you decide to make something similar to this Sleeveless Hoodie I made. Consider yourself warned. The hoodie I made took over 250 hours to print and over 40 hours to assemble. If you do not make or understand how to make chainmail turn back now.
Feel free to use my design for personal use. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE ANY FINISHED PROJECTS!! Please be fair and respect the license, No selling.
UPDATE 4/17/18: If your having trouble with the rings getting knocked off while printing try raising the layer print height. I made a change of 0.0016 and it was a huge improvement.
Per a request, I added a file for a single open ring.
Per a request, I added a file to fit a 4X4 printer.
UPDATE 5/17/18: added a small file for test prints when adjusting your printer it is labled calibration.
