11.28.20 fixed small bug in 4x5 bracket
Edit: I added slots for the nickel strip to flow smoothly through the brackets, and it takes less filament now! It should bridge the gap just fine without supports if your printer is tuned.
Edit: I just added a 4x5 clip as well! Happy building everyone!
So I was looking to make a few more of spacers for an 18650 battery I was building and I didn't want to wait for shipping, so I came here to find that no one has replicated one that works with my existing spacers! I took it upon myself to make an easily printable, cost effective way to make battery spacers that will work with existing spacers on the market.
Here is an amazon link to what my clips will work with: https://www.amazon.com/ZRM-Lithium-Battery-Bracket-Protection/dp/B07DNR8NL7/ref=as_li_ss_tl?dchild=1&keywords=18650+spacers&qid=1591380033&sr=8-4&linkCode=sl1&tag=wiseprints206-20&linkId=99d373b27865de602b9321b8690d444c&language=en_US
If you click my link and buy something, amazon gives me commission at no cost to yourself. So please don't hesitate to buy something if you need something!
These spacers take about 30 minutes to print, and weigh about 2 grams. If you buy filament for 20 dollars a kilogram, they cost about 4 cents USD to print one. On amazon, you can buy 50 of them for $8.19 USD (plus shipping if you don't have prime). This means they cost at least 16.4 cents each from amazon.
The one downside to printing these clips, is that they are not as strong as the injection molded plastic from amazon, but if you print in PETG or something other than PLA it may make a difference. Because of the reduced durability, you have to be careful if you want to pull them back apart from each other. Also a resin printer would probably work really well for these, unfortunately I don't have one yet to test this on.
Make it as high detail as possible (my layer height was .14mm) and increase the wall thickness to 3 or 4 and you should be good to go! Its so small that supports don't make a difference on my machine anyway, but if the clips on the side aren't coming out correctly then try turning the supports on.
If your printer is not dialed in, I included a loose version that is more likely to work with sloppy printers. I would try the regular print first to see if that works, then try the loose one if you are having issues.
