If you have an early 80's Yamaha XJ750 Seca, chances are you are missing the emblem that fits over the screws that hold down the handlebar pad. In almost every one of these bikes I have seen in person or in photos, that emblem is missing. I suspect they didn't fit tight enough and tended to go awol when riders weren't looking. Surely not everybody just forgot to put them back...
Of course, the OEM part was discontinued years ago and are currently made of unobtainuim, so good luck finding one from Yamaha or even on the secondary market.
I hated seeing that gaping hole every time I rode my Seca, so I finally decided to do something about it. After much research, I found a site that had the OEM part listed (though discontinued), that also had a photo of the actual part instead of just the part number. Having never seen one in the wild, I used that to at least get an idea of what it was supposed to look like and the proportions of the text.
After several tries of tweaking the size to get a nice snug fit, this was the result. While not a perfect match, it's MUCH better than an empty slot with ugly screws in it. I think the casual observer probably wouldn't even notice that it's not stock. (other than the fact it exists)
As noted in print settings, use a really thin layer height for the best finish, and don't use PLA if you ever plan to park in the sun.
Enjoy the newfound pride in not having a bit divot in the middle of your bars.
