I Remixed 0lympy's FT-7800 remote face mount as I was thinking of ways I could mount my remote radio head without using hardware or velcro.
Usage Update - This was a good fit into the vent, and rides during driving just fine. But when moving the microphone cable from hook to face to talk, it causes the mount to swing left and right. I do not like this at all, so some additional stabilization will need to be added. This can be done a few different ways, adding stand off legs to the boom to catch the dash maybe. Instead of redesign right now, I'm currently testing a slide on mount for the center roof console that should place the radio head between the headliner and rear view mirror.
Photos is ROUGH due to support malfunction, may be able to print without supports at all.
This isn't perfect by no means and was put together completely in my slicer, no cad.
I came up with the crazy Idea to use the small in dash vent for the A/C or heat that is in the upper dash near the door. Measuring the gap and seeing how the Duct behind the vent curved back in to the right, I sat out to design this and I just got it completed the night before I posted this, but it works as I intended it to.
The long arm goes into the vent duct and allows the weight to be rested on the end of the arm and not so much the vent cover itself.
I angled this piece so that the head of the radio would be facing toward me directly.
If you have a similar vent in your vehicle besides a (2011) Tahoe, it might work for you as well. Just check dimensions.
