The file 'WWII Liberty Ship 1:108 Scale (updated ’22) 3D Printer Model' is (DXF,STL) file type, size is 4.0MB.
Update 6/2022 - I did not update any files but I added a 10 page instruction drawing as a .dxf file. I was not allowed to add a pdf but if you'd rather have that contact me and I will find a way to get it to you. - Paul
World War Two “Liberty Ship”. I see this as more a toy than a model but I put effort into keeping it an accurate scale. I used internet searches to locate diagrams, blueprints, and pictures of the real thing, plus a little guesswork. I found that they were not all built exactly the same (design changes were made as time went on) so this is more a composite model of the real ships.
This is modeled in 1:108 scale. (15mm miniatures) Real world dimensions it is about 49” long. I’m sure it can be adjusted one way or the other somewhat to suit your needs.
My print bed is 10”x6”x6” tall so the parts were designed to fit onto that. It's a complicated assembly with many parts and is not for the faint of heart. Parts are grouped together as subassemblies and as follows: (L)iberty then (H)ull, (D)eck, (C)rane, (E)xtras, (S)tructures.
The ship with all the pieces and extras will use about 3kg of filament...around $60 of plastic.
The boats in the pictures are remote control. I know nothing about designing ships (real or otherwise) so this has been a learning experience. For my first build of this ship (the white/gray/red) I bought a Black Marlin R/C boat and cannibalized all the electronic parts from it to install into the model. It was really fast...too fast. I suggest you just buy a cheap $30 r/c boat online and do the same.
If assembling to put on the water be sure to caulk the hull sections together including all around the assembly bolts. I also added ballast (10 - 20 pounds of rocks so that it looked loaded or unloaded) to get it to sit right in the water.
Veteran’s Day 2020, I /cannot/ express enough how grateful I am to past and present members of our Armed Forces. Without you and the sacrifices you make/made I would not be able to live in peace and freedom and make silly little toys like these. Thank you.
