Summary

Surprised by popularity of the earlier set of late-WW2 bombers to this scale, I decided to publish models of Japanese bombers from the period including some that are less well known in the US. These models are original and have been “bulked up” to print at 1:350 for use in dioramas with 1:350 model ships, but they can be printed at popular micro-scales of 1:285 and 1:200 (123% and 175% respectively).

Kawasaki [Ki-48] Type 99 (Lilly) - Army fast/light bomber partly derived from Ki-45 heavy fighter. Used throughout the Pacific war; later version added dive bombing.

Nakajima [Ki-49] Type 100 Donryu (Helen) - Army medium/heavy bomber designed to replace Ki-21 (Sally). Better protected than most, with first powered tail turret on Japanese bomber, but never fully replaced its predecessor.

Nakajima B6N Tenzan (Jill) - Navy carrier torpedo/level bomber developed mid-war. Missions limited by carrier losses.

Yokosuka D4Y Suisei (Judy) - Navy carrier dive bomber developed mid-war. Fast and capable; radial-engined version developed due to strategic bombing. Two STL models, inline engine (D4Y2) and radial (D4Y3).

Aichi B7A Ryusei (Grace) - Navy carrier torpedo/level bomber developed late-war. Good aircraft but mission no longer viable; land version developed.

Yokosuka P1Y Ginga (Frances) - Navy land-based light/medium torpedo/level bomber developed mid-war to replace G4M (Betty). Excellent aircraft but greatly delayed by production issues.
