Summary

Worm Gearbox for Robotics

This is a 3d printed worm gearbox that I designed using FreeCAD for my robotic arm. It is still a prototype, but I intend to improve upon it.

Features:

  • It is a worm drive.
  • It has a gear ratio of 10:1.
  • There are four parts: the spur gear, worm gear, enclosure, cover.
  • Uses standard servos and electronics, making parts readily available.

Materials & Tools:

  • 3d Printer[I used Creality Ender 3 v2.]
  • Filament
  • Hardware - MG995 or MG996 servo, 12V DC Power supply, 3mm screws.

Note :

  • The servo you are using should be modified for 360° rotation.
  • Few holes should be drilled up.
  • Few parts should be sanded up

Assembly:

Check out my YouTube channel for a detailed video on assembly.

Printer Settings:[I used these. Not necessary you should too]

  • Infill: 20%
  • Supports: Yes, for specific parts.
  • Layer height:0.12 mm for both the gears and 0.16 mm for the rest.
  • Filament Material: PLA

Feel free to reach out if you have any difficulties with the assembly.
