This tool is used to make metal hooks which attach to wooden I-beams in order to hang things.
My basement has these I-beams and no finished walls. I simply wanted to hang some Christmas Decorations up. I figured out how to bend some coat hanger wire to make a hook, then designed this template to make bending them a LOT easier.
Simply take a straightened coat hanger, or other straight steal wire, and place one end into the hole at the top. Then carefully bend the wire around the outside making the corners as sharp as possible. When you get to the other end, bend it around and into the clip. It takes a bit of wiggling to remove it, but then cut the excess wire off with some heavy metal cutters. (I used the cutter inside my vice grips) and you have a hook in about 10 seconds.
Please Note: I actually do recommend wearing eye protection and gloves as the wire can spring out and it hurts. I am not responsible for injuries from careless handling and cutting of steal wire. You may also want to check the recommendations for your I-beams. I would not put much weight on these. They work great for hanging my Holiday decorations but they are pretty lite weight.
