Summary

This is a treat dispensing pet-toy shaped like an egg, that keeps itself balanced upright! Great to give food-focused cats or other pets a challenge!

I designed it to be easy to 3d-print, and use minimal material! Prints in 2 halves that twist-lock together.

Print using 100% Infill, I find Concentric works the best for this case. Even at 100% it won't use too much material, so don't worry. ;)

It takes an M8 nut that slides into the bottom half (may need a little glue), and can also fit a small bell in that chamber as well, to increase the noise-making of the toy. Tho the bell needs to be small, or somewhat flattened in shape. Check the photos above to see how I place them. If you don't have a small enough bell, then another nut or anything really can be added to roll around in there, even several BBs might work. Or you can just leave noise-maker part out entirely, it'll just makes the toy quieter and pets can tell when it's empty easier.

If the two halves don't quite fit together right, it's usually cause the first layer was too close to the print-bed or over-extruded a little. You should be able to easily fix that tho, by sanding the bottom half's slide-in rim a little.

The top chamber can be filled almost full with treats, and it should still stay upright. The more treats inside, the easier it'll be, but as they run low, it becomes much more difficult.

Tips for adjusting difficulty, to train pet to use:

All pets learn differently, so while some might instantly know how to start figuring it out, others may just get frustrated or ignore it. If they don't understand at first, put their favorite treats inside, then for a few days, whenever you give them treats, use the toy to manually shake some out for them. This way they'll see treats come from the toy.

  • Easy: Don't use the M8 Nut. Toy will tip over easily and roll around.
  • Medium: Use the Nut & add plenty of treats, easy at first, harder as they run out.
  • Hard: Add a bell or whatever to the lower chamber, to make noise & increase weight.

Here's a video of one of my cats playing with it:
