Summary

Hi guys,

If Thingiverse is as slow for you as it is for me, consider looking for your 3D parts at Cults 3D:

This is a WLToys 12428 mod to turn it into a crawler truck. The front suspension mount lets you use the cheap Chinese aluminum shocks shown in the pictures. The shocks work in the back with no modifications. The tall spacer goes under the front and you'll need some longer screws to fasten the mount (I think m2.5 x 20mm screws are what I used). I printed the toolbox to make a spot to easily attach the brass roll cage that I made for testing. The body posts and washers work with the body mounts shown in the pictures. The rear body mount is a back of the junk drawer metal bracket that fits nice, so you'll have to make your own. The body is a cheap Injora Ford truck body, not a Chev like the real Fall Guy truck, but what are you gonna do, right?

Notice the picture with the cheap VW Beetle body? If I had known that would fit so nicely, this project likely never would have happened ;^) The wheelbase is perfect in case you're looking for a cheap Bug body for your WLToys.

Check it out running on YouTube (excuse the slow speed, the motor is a crappy 550 that really kills the speed): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XT1PS4dc3q4

I cut 12428 roll cage and glued a couple of pieces in to fill the bottom under the toolbox, but you can pretty much do what you want. The deck is just cardboard covered in electrical tape and it has held up fine so far. The main roll bar is brass tube that I had kicking around and the back bars are coat hanger. The plan is to make a better roll cage but I haven't gotten to it yet.

Guys, the geometry isn't quite right but I didn't want to tilt back the mount any farther because that also moves the body mounts. Bottom line, the front suspension is still the weak link on this truck. The aluminum shocks in the pictures work GREAT on the back.

Lock up the rear axle if you want to go crawling.

I got the body for $20 Cdn on Amazon but you can find it all over the place for about the same price. It's not bad and pretty solid. It comes in a box so it should be unmarked by the delivery process.

I got the shocks super cheap off Amazon Canada ($25 for 4) but here's a link to some on EBay.
