The file 'Wireframe Cobra Mk.III From Elite 3D Printer Model' is (pdf, stl) file type, size is 108.2KB.
The famous Falcon DeLacey Cobra Mk. III from the 1984 release of Elite! This wireframe display model has a 7" wingspan (not really wings, but you know what I mean). The model is taken from an archive.org snapshot of the WitchSpace site - someone had converted original BBC files into VRML, and I wrote come code to convert that to openSCAD. The 'wires' are 3mm in diameter. Be warned - there will likely be a lot of model cleanup, and the model itself is delicate - use a new blade on your Xacto, and work slowly.
The snapshot of the site is here: http://web.archive.org/web/20090517122753/http://mackayj.doosh.net/eliteships.html
The ship prints as one piece, and I included some files to make a nice acrylic display stand (it will work with any material at 3mm width, and there is one L-shaped piece to 3D print). The ship is attached to the stand using M2 screws and nuts.
Have a look at the photos for how the stand assembles. The felt piece is intended to glue to the bottom of the stand (felt, by the way, cuts on a laser at low power quite nicely, use hot glue to attach it to the stand).
If you want to have the etched logo on the base, here's how I did that - First I sprayed the back side the of acrylic black, then etched the text/images and cut the base, and then I sprayed red over the etching. Because you view it from the other side, it has a nice, smooth engraved look. Experiment with different contrasting colors.
