Update, 2020-12-07: I have created a replacement insert that will hold both expansions for the game. It can be found at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4663734
Update, 2020-10-29: Hi everyone. For anyone actually watching this thing, and wondering if I will put out an update for the Oceania expansion, the answer is yes! However, after looking over the list of components on BGG, I think I may be going back to the start with a redesign over trying to make it fit...there are five new player boards, so I will need to adjust accordingly! I will look to put something out as soon as I can after I receive my copy. Thanks!
This is my custom insert for the game Wingspan. I'm always welcome to constructive criticism, or suggestions for improvement. Feel free to comment!
This insert does away with the GameTrayz insert that came with the game. I tried to design around it, but it was making it difficult to do anything other than just make boxes. I wasn't really blown away by it on the table either, so it had to go! As my wife put it...designer's choice :). I did keep the dice tower in the box...it's not a great tower, but I kind of like it.
As with all of my designs so far, I've designed it so the insert is flush with the lid with all components in place. It passed the shake test with flying colours, so it will allow for storage on its side. The boxes do shift around a little bit due to the dice tower, but it did not impact anything in the box.
I based the start player marker in my set off of the excellent design at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3442331 (designed by Kandyhouse). I highly recommend the owl, it turned out fantastic. I have also replaced the player bits with https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3557101, and the resources with https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3557135 (both designed by GregNetDesign). These are fantastic designs, I cannot recommend them enough.
For printing, follow along with the screenshot I have posted in the pictures. It will tell you how many of each STL to print, along with approx cost and time.
Thanks!
Update: 2019-09-18 - It was pointed out that one of the walls on the Bit Box was too thin. I had adjusted the outer wall, but forgot to adjust the inner wall to match. I've updated the box and re-uploaded
Update: 2019-12-12 - I have done a simple update on a few of the boxes to accomodate the European Expansion. The three new boxes are marked as Expansion boxes, and replace the Bird Card Box, Score Card Box and Start Player Box. I kept it simple and just expanded the space available in each to accomodate the new cards and tiles. I'm also placing the end of round marker in the box with the dice for now. I will look at a major update to this once the second expansion comes out :)
