The file 'WATERMILL – OO Or HO Model Railway 3D Printer Model' is (stl) file type, size is 926.3KB.
I enjoy designing and making model buildings and functional items. They take many hours to design, test and refine. I share for free and NOT FOR OTHERS TO MAKE COMMERCIAL PROFIT. Please read my profile before downloading.
I sincerely hope others will enjoy my designs. I am always pleased to hear about successful or useful prints. Please post a photo of successful ‘makes’ if you can.
The water mill
This was my second attempt to design something for 3D printing.
I HAVE UPDATED THIS DESIGN - new version https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5049358
The water mill is not authentic. It’s deliberately small to fit on my very small model railway layout without taking a lot of space. It has been designed to fit into a sloping landscape with an overshot mill wheel. The back door of the mill is on the first floor. The weatherboard exterior should probably be painted white or very dark brown. Yellow probably wouldn't look that great!
I have yet to fit the mill to my layout. The mill has a geared motor enabling the wheel to turn. The wheel fits down into a trough or pit that goes below the ground floor level of the mill and so the actual building will need to fit above the level of the baseboard to allow space.
The mill has been printed several times in order to get it right. I may tweak it further if necessary. I hope someone will find this little design useful.
Version 1 is the version I have printed for my own use.
Version 2 is identical but has some unnecessary internal bits removed to save printing time and plastic. I have not attempted a print of this second version.
The water wheel is intended to be overshot and will require a suitable metal shaft.
The shute and sluice print separately and need to be glued in place. Clearances are quite tight and care is needed to make sufficient space for the wheel to turn freely.
If anyone actually prints this, I would really like to see their finished & painted product.
Approximate mass = 95g (excluding wheel and shute)
Print time: About 20 hours on Ender 3 Pro. (Excluding wheel and shute). (Standard settings, no brim or supports).
UPDATE: The water wheel file has now been replaced with an improved version. This one has a 3mm drilling for the motor shaft.
UPDATE: The water shute and sluice have now been added. See photo and updated text above.
