Summary

This is a Gudgeon I created for my Victoria 18 sailboat. when i got the boat, the original gudgeon was gone, and the rudder was being held up by a ratchet strap. I designed this in a way that I could use stainless steel fasteners to attach it directly to the keel of the boat. I then covered it in epoxy to encapsulate the whole thing and add a little more strength. keep in mind this was purely an experiment to see how 3d printed parts react below the water line. I can now report that this gudgeon has withstood 5knots over water multiple times. I have gotten very comfortable with this fix now and we push her pretty hard without worry. have sailed dozens of times with this fix. I printed mine in PETG at 100%infill. and I printed it on the slanted face at the bottom. face to surface. this I found have the most lateral strength. 3 stainless steel washers were used as a sort of barring to keep the wear off of the plastic. the bottom washer is glued to the top of the gudgeon. middle washer runs free and loose, and the top washer is glued to the bottom of the rudder. so theoretically there should be little to no wear in the long term.
