Summary

My daughter finally got to compete in a powder-puff pinewood derby, so she asked me to help her to make a car that had the same level of detail that I help her brothers to make. After considering everything from princess carriages to unicorns, we settled on creating Vanellope Von Schweetz car from Wreck it Ralph. The car was carefully shaped to have the appearance of oozing chocolate, using a scroll saw, sander and a dremel to shape it. We drilled out the hole for Vanellope to sit in and drilled holes for the side pipes and Spoiler poles.
My 10 year old daughter spent hours painting all of the details to get them right and covering it in glitter (of course). She used hot glue to create the raised frosting strings. The headlights, tail lights, side pipes, spoiler and of course Vanellope were 3D printed accessories that were glued on and painted as well. She used hot glue to create the chocolate drip coming down from the spoiler. She used silver permanent marker followed by colored permanent marker to draw the gummy worms on the tires. I helped her to cut out a piece of 20 oz pop bottle to glue on for the windshield.

All in all, it was a great success! She won a medal for best design and took second place in the races. Now she has an awesome car to keep on her shelf with the trophy and medal!

I used the excellent Vanellope model by 3DGiver to make Vanellope into a driver. The rest of the parts were created in Tinkercad.
