Summary

I was in the junkyard getting an AM/FM radio CD changer for my 2005 Mazda MPV. I wanted to get a tape unit too (if even to just use it for a cassette adapter aux in), but there weren't any for MPV's.

I read somewhere that the units were all modular and interchangeable, and there were plenty of tape units in the Mazda Tributes. So I took a chance and Frankenstein'd the tape unit from a Tribute into the MPV's changer unit.

When I got home, sure enough, it worked.

The only thing is the Tribute's tape unit faceplate module is smaller than the MPV's opening.

So I was left with 3 options

  1. Leave it like it looked. (unsightly)

  2. Take a chance and buy a faceplate module unit for an MPV. (costs money)

  3. Design a faceplate cover to match (cool and sorta free)

So I chose #3.

I literally just have it sitting in place, no adhesive or anything. It doesn't fall out.

I really hope this can be useful to someone out there in a similar situation.

The MPV has an excellent sound system, I usually have the rear speakers louder and the sound just envelops you.
