Summary

This is an upgrade of the original 2DoF Holder Arm - improved in several directions. All the improvements were achieved by modification of only one of the four components = BodyPlate. So you still need the remaining 3 files from the original design (i.e. WallPlate, Arm, and Nut). The following modifications to the BodyPlate are made:

  • the original BodyPlate required genuine UniFi mount - see picture. However not all UniFi models were apparently equipped with this type of mount by default in the package. Also, the previous model required coupling the printed piece with the genuine UniFi mount with screws. This is no longer needed - the printed body plate will "screw into" the AP body directly. Unlike in the genuine piece there is no lock so only friction holds the AP in place however it fits my usecase perfectly.

  • the BodyPlate now sticks tiny bit more into space from the Arm (along Y axis if X axis is central through the arm). This allows to use this modification even with much larger UniFi models then the original nanoAP. I'm using it for LR6 model = 240mm in diameter (compared to 160mm of the original) and it can nicely rotate around X axis fully (i.e. pan the AP up and down)

  • fianlly there are two versions of the new BodyPlate included: Symmetrical and Rotated. This refers to the position of mounting stumps (or whatever those little spurs holding the mounting plate in are called). There are real life photos with axes included to help you decide which version is needed. The Symmetrical is used in nanoHD and as you can see in the picture the stumps are mirrored along vertical axis of the nanoHD body. The Rotated version is rotated 20 degrees counter-clockwise as you can see in the photo of LR6 AP. I'm not sure what the Ubiquiti's intention behind changing the design was but apparently it is reality. Either version will work with any of these APs - however the final position of the AP is rotated by 20 degrees if the wrong version is used. Noticable only by the position of the central logo - but hey - we want our antennas aligned and logo straight! ;)

All in all this remix allows much wider range of applicability - getting rid of the missing genuine mounting plate in some UniFi AP models issue, getting rid of screws, allowing bigger UniFi AP models, and bringing in two variants of the BodyPlate - according to the position of the mounting interface on the UniFi AP.

It has been tested (and used) with nanoAP and LR6. Mind the weight of the AP - not sure if the design would support well even bigger (bulkier and also heavier in the first place) models. Use at your own risk.

Final note: if you print the Holder and you like the design / it brings value please post a photo of your make. That's the best appreciation an author can get. Thanks!
