Summary

Universal Door Sliding Sign

A simple frame with sliding pane to select between two large 5x5cm signs. The signage is just a simple sheet of paper and can be exchanged from above. The template (to be printed and cut-out) is also included as an Inkscape SVG file for easy editing!

The image shows a typical FREE / BUSY selector, with a sample PDF for quick printing.

Printing and installation

Print the parts as given, no supports required. Use your favorite material. A layer-height of 0.2mm is recommended.

The frame is printed in an upside-down orientation: note the recess for the paper is on top.

Position the slider in the middle of the frame by inserting one "V" side in the internal part of the frame, then gently force the upper part into the frame by bending it slightly until it snaps into place. Once inserted the slider should move freely side-to-side.

Use double-sided tape on the outer parts in the rear of the frame (2 sides and bottom). Again note that the recessed slot for the paper should be on top, where the bezel is thinner. After checking the orientation affix it to a wall or door. Glue can also be an option.

Open the SVG template in Inkscape (or your favourite SVG editor) to customize the sign. Choose the appropriate page size, then print at 100% scale and cut along the outer border. Slide the paper from above and into the sign.
