These wheels have a locking mechanism built in so they remain where you set them indefinitely. I also prefer feeling that I should go up/down one or two clicks during the process of leveling, it helps me level much faster than I could with the stock wheel.
I also found it difficult to turn the stock wheels without putting any linear force on them due to their slippery organic design and it made leveling a minor pain the backside. These wheels are designed to be as sharp and grippy as possible so they can be turned without putting any force on the bed.
I've used some other locking mechanisms for the stock wheels but they had a lot of slop in them, got in the way of the wheel and couldn't be used with anything other than the stock wheels so my goal with these was to have a good wheel with a low tolerance internal locking mechanism that didn't get in the way and had minimal slop.
