Summary

This is a redesign (built from ground up - so not really a Remix of a previous design) of chassis part designs for the Ultimaker 2 builds here on Thingiverse. I plan to upload as I finalize and test all parts. Currently there are:

Z Gantry Top Redesign
3-Way Norner Support

The first a redesign of similar designs of the top Z axis gantry for custom Ultimaker 2 based printers. The main motive behind this design was to allow the use of 12mm linear rods that aren't cut to exactly 339mm - I found that cutting the linear rods to exact length could end up in unusable rods or, if you were slightly over/under the measurement, you would get slippage of the rod while printing. My solution was to allow the rods to move through the support entirely, and to add a small screw hole lock the rod in place. Other features of this design are 1mm T slot alignment notch for easier and sturdier mounting onto 20x20mm extrusions, and a strong "brace" to prevent wobble and sagging. The design I had used before did not mount sturdy enough, especially around the rods themselves, and tended to have a lot of flex when the build plate was near the top.

The second, and many of the parts to come is a custom part specifically design to support the chassis for strength/durability, while also allowing for easy installation of 4mm acrylic/plexiglass for a all-in-one chassis/enclosure setup. As this gets closer to completion, I will be posting pictures of the actual build to show these parts in action.

As a final tidbit - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:811271 and http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1659579 are fully working designs that acheieve similar goals. Both are simple and relatively quick to print. My particular designs are meant to achieve a higher performance goal with 3D printer parts, offering more rigidity, easier construction, and the added benefit of a "drop in place" acrylic/plexiglass enclosure, of which exact dimensions will be provided and install instruction as well once they are ready! While this is a work in progress, if you are using any of the parts I provide, know that they are fully compatible with either of these other two sets.
