I bought some of the cheaper Wi-Fi smart switches but didn't realize that they can't be connected directly to the switch line. These models require two wires at the switch, making them impossible to install at the light fixture, where I'd like to place them, unlike the more versatile Sonoff Mini. This design allows you to replace the switch with the device. However, the faceplate is not fireproof and won't pass an inspection (NEC 406.6(C)). Use at your own risk.
