I recycle unwanted pipette tip boxes by using this Thing to turn them into tube storage racks. Simply remove the tip tray from the box and drop this sheet in its place. This lets you do three things:
- Store tubes in the box.
- Pack the box with shaved ice and use it to store qPCR reagents and reactions while you work. If you're anything like me you probably keep losing your primer tubes in the ice, so this helps a lot.
- To thaw your tubes quickly, fill the box with cold water. Your reagents will be ready by the time you've finished your calculations.
Included in this Thing:
- Sheet for mixed tubes (see photo above). Stores 8× 1.5 mL, 18× 0.5 mL, and 24× PCR tubes.
- Sheet for 1.5 mL tubes. Stores 24 (4×6).
- Sheet for 0.5 mL tubes. Stores 40 (8×5).
- Sheet for PCR (0.2 mL) tubes, fits strips and individual tubes. Stores 96 (8×12).
- OpenSCAD script. This is not a Customizer and probably never will be — it's pretty slow to render — but the script is commented and you should be able to play with it.
