Summary

Did it ever happen to you that your tripod was just a bit too short? Well, it happened to me when I tried to mount my DIY 3 element Yagi-Uda antenna (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1678158) vertically. Thus I designed this very low cost and easy to build extension.

This is what you need (bill of materials):
1 PVC-pipe (inner) diam. 20 mm, length is up to you
2 3D-printed parts (download above)
1 Nut: 1/4'' USC
1 Screw: 1/4'' USC, allen type, length 1'' (or longer and cut it)
Epoxy adhesive

Print the two parts and secure the nut resp. bolt with epoxy adhesive. I used the fast type (5 min.). Again using epoxy adhesive glue the two parts into opposite ends of the PVC-pipe which was cut to length beforehand. Finished!

A word of caution: Depending on the length of the pipe and the mass of the attached object the torque on the nut can get quite high - maybe too high. You might want to perform some tests before you mount your most expensive digital camera at the end of a 2 meter extension ;). Use at your own risk!
