For the 70th anniversary of Tri-ang Railways, Hornby Limited Edition "Reproduction" of the original Tri-ang Industrial 0-4-0 steam loco. Many were discussed with the shameless re-deco of the 0-4-0 E4 mold, first used for the Hornby 0-4-0 Thomas model sold during the 1980s. Many were embarrassed that for the 70th anniversary, they reused a completely unrelated mold for it.
Many took this as a call to bring attention to the original designs. Have it showcasing them or restoring them to working order and fixing cosmetic wear/damage. I did as well; I bought an original loco from the later releases and used it as a template to rebuild it in Fusion 360.
I planned on using the popular Hornby 0-4-0 (Pocket Rocket) chassis. To accomplish this, the running board and top shell had to be lengthened to fit it. I extended the side tanks and boiler and rounded any measures up. The end result was relatively seamless and, at a glance, looks identical to the original design.
Feel free to print one and paint it to your liking. Buy/make aftermarket side plates and a pre-owned 0-4-0 chassis, and enjoy what should have been the ideal: the true reproduction of the original Tri-ang loco!
Perhaps one day, I'll make reproductions of the other Tri-ang 0-4-0.
Most images were taken on someone else's layout with the owner's permission during a train show.
