The file 'Treasure Chest Puzzle Box 3D Printer Model' is (stl, pdf) file type, size is 2.7MB.

Summary

Treasure chest puzzle box inspired by The Legend of Zelda series.

Can you find the 3 Triforce piece symbols and open the chest?

Bonus puzzle: After opening the chest, find the hidden fully-assembled Triforce (or extra compartment if using the enclosed flip lid).

Updates

  • The core can now be printed with no supports!
  • Tighter tolerances to reduce jams.
  • Optional magnets provide a snappier feel to the mechanism.
  • Longer tabs in the the arch piece for a stronger hold.
  • Alternative slat styles that include rivets for an easier grip on moving pieces.
  • Two "tool" files have been added to help with measuring metal rod length
  • New alternate flip lid (Flip_Lid_Enclosed_Version.stl) which prevents items stored in the Treasure Chest from jamming the puzzle mechanism. NOTE: the alternate lid also includes a second hidden compartment instead of the Triforce symbol.
  • New alternate loose core (Core_Loose_Version.stl) for printers that need a little more wiggle room for sliding parts. The standard core file (Core.stl) is still recommended, for printers that can work with the default .25mm gap.
  • Slats are now available as individual files.
  • New "slat printing support" tool. When printing all the slats at once, you can slide one or more of these tools onto the print to provide support and prevent wobbling.

Materials Needed

  • 2.5mm metal rod - 45mm long
  • 2.5mm metal rod - 94.5mm long
  • 3mm cylinder magnets (3mm diameter, 3mm height), quantity: 12

Customization Options

  • Use alternate "Riveted" Slats for an improved grip.
  • Mix and match riveted and non-riveted slats to hint at the puzzle solution.
  • Use alternate "easy" wheel to make the first step of the solution optional.
  • Use enclosed flip lid (Flip_Lid_Enclosed_Version.stl) to keep prizes away from the mechanism.

Printing Notes

  • Print the Weighted Axel with a high infill % to improve its use as a weight.
  • All parts can be printed with no supports.
  • Tall pieces (Slats, Flip Lid, Flip Lid Cap) may require a brim for support. However, most of these pieces require only minimal cleanup, as the trimmed brim will be fully hidden.

Solution and assembly instructions are included in the project files.
