The file 'Traxxas Rustler 1/10 Stadium Truck – Self Righting Skis 3D Printer Model' is (stl) file type, size is 1.1MB.
Done...
Built and designed in AutoCAD, are a set of skis for my Traxxas Rustler XL (1/10 Scale Stadium Truck).
Here is an explanation of the files...
struts.stl - A set of struts to print alone to fit the size mentioned below.
struts_short.stl - A shorter set of struts, if you like the "highjack" look.
front.stl - The front split part of the ski (must be attached to the rest of the parts)
parts.stl - The rest of the parts of the skis
ski.stl - Full ski if your printer supports large prints
ski_complete.stl - A full model of the ski - NO SCALE
strut_complete.stl - A full model of the strut - NO SCALE (But matches the NO SCALE ski)
NOTE: The files listed at "no scale".
The ski's will be universal to whatever vehicle that you want them to be on, but the strut is designed to work with my truck and the way they need to attach to the chassis. Mine works as a simple removal of a tire versus some other designs that require a full change-out of the front end.
They are quite large, as you can imagine. Designed to be printed with a full length of 11.85 inches. This size, the struts will work with a standard 12MM hex hub and will require no other work, aside from a little cleaning up. If you change the size of the strut, you will have to remember to reposition the holes in the base so that they still attach to the skis correctly.
You will also need to find some small nuts and bolts to attach the parts together unless you want to use an alternate method to do so. I found some spares with my truck so I used them. NOTE - the struts need to be positioned with the flat face to the front. This allows the skis to rotate back into a good landing position if you happen to catch air.
All that being said - I started them. You are all welcome to do as you wish (except sell them, of course) to improve on the design.
Paddle tires on the back and skis on the front.
Enjoy! Now, bring on the snow! Merry Christmas!
My skis were printed using a Dremel Idea Printer with a 8x6x6 bed. I printed with 3 shells, 40% infill, a speed of 100 at a 220deg temp. I used PLA with mine, if it matters.
