I became a uncle and decided to make some toy trains for my nephew. I was not very happy with the all plastic models I found on Thingiverse and decided to make my own version using some metal hardware and glue.
I use a neodym magnet with diameter 10mm and height 3mm. The head is a 11mm decorative nail (Polsternagel) with the pin cut off. A 5mm long brass pin with diameter 2 mm helps to to glue it to the base.
The wheels are made with brass tubes (diameter 2mm, wall thickness 0.3mm) of length 29 mm and 9 mm decorative nails (Polsternagel). I use some 2 component epoxy glue under the head of the nail and inside the tube. Make sure that the wheels have enough distance. The inner distance between the wheels should be about 22mm. I use two 1mm shims when I mount the wheels to the base.
Alternatively you can use the file wheel_plastic.stl and a 2mm diameter brass rode of length 29 mm only.
Use a M3x12mm socket head screw to mount the bogies on the car. I directly turned the screw into plastic. Be careful when doing that and make sure that the screw is perpendicular and do not screw it in too far.
The two bogies a aligned with two hock screws 2x20mm (sometimes they are labeled 2.3x20mm)
