Summary

ATTENTION!!! I never tested this design on a rocket. Please make sure it works well and that everything is safe so that your rocket is able to make a good ascent. I would suggest everybody to make a static fire test before launching to know if everything is good to go. If you are having any problems or thinks the TVC Mount needs improvement please let me know. Good luck and welcome to the GyroMk02 thing page.

This design (Gyro Mk02) was inspired by Joe Barnard from
BPS.space (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCILl8ozWuxnFYXIe2svjHhg). To build it, you will need two push rods, the screws that come with your servo motor and eight M3.5 or M4 screws (pick M4 if your 3d printer is not that precise and M3.5 if it is, I don't know if M3 would even work), the length is 8mm or a little bigger (12mm). You can use the Mg90s servo (recommended) or the sg90. The X and Y axis have at least 5 degrees of freedom to both directions. If you are going to use this on a rocket, make sure to make an estatic fire test before! In case you are confused, please check the images above. The Gyro Mk02 was designed to fit airframes of 74 mm, but keep in mind the servos could get in the way, so you will need to make some cuts. Don't forget to check Joe's channel, it's awesome!!!

Please note that the angles of freedom are different for each axis and direction. Make sure you consider that before programming your TVC mount

Update 10/01/2019

New inner gimbal version uploaded (Mk02 V3)

The X axis pushrod slot was too close to the screws (spinning axis). Now, it is the same distance as the Y axis. Gyro Mk02 is now more accurate and safer. Credits to Joe Barnard who helped me!

Update 22/01/2019

I made a mistake while measuring the screws I used in the TVC mount. I would like to apologize all of you and share the new correct size which is M3 or M3.5 (depending on the tolerance of your 3d printed part) screws with a 8mm length. Thank you for helping me out making this design better!!!

Update 26/02/2019

(New inner & outer gimbal versions uploaded)

The X axis servo slot was too weak. I fixed this by making it thicker and I added a little curve in the bottom to help it dealing with stress. Besides that, I also fixed a little issue that had to do with the pushrod slot of the inner gimbal. The hole in it was too small ( in order to avoid problems of it releasing ). Now, it should be very tight but still able to fit a 1mm pushrod. A huge thanks to K-9 Rocket technologies and other people for the feedback.

Update 03/05/2019

Outer Gimbal Mk02 V4 is now out! This was able due to your great feedback in the comment section. Now, the outer gimbal has 4 holes around it, to screw them in, use the same m3/m3.5 screws that you used to screw the gimbal. The TVC can fit into 74 mm airframe but some cuts are needed in order to make way for the servos.

Update 11/05/2019

After some great suggestions, I decided to make a new version of the outer gimbal in which the distance bewteen the servo arms and the pushord slots is the same in the X and Y axis to improve the TVC mount's precision and safety. It also has smoother curves along the side and is a little bit thinner (please let me know if you noticed that it's weakness decreased). Besides that, I added a new version of the engine airframe that has the Gyro Mk02 logo on it. Thank you all for the awesome feedback you've been giving me.

Update 28/05/2019

Yukon from K-9 rockets made his own version of the TVC mount, make sure to check it out in order to see which version can fit your project the best. Don't forget to visit his awesome website, he is doing some really professional things.

Update 17/06/2019

We did it! The file now has more than 500 downloads, that's awesome! I would like to thank each one of you who trusted my design, and I wish good luck for every rocket you are launching. I'm feeling very thankful, but lacking creativity. I feel like you guys deserve a 500 hundred special version, so I'm counting with your help, please leave suggestions below of what needs to be improved on the mount or even something that could make it look better. Thank you all, have a nice day!

Update 09/09/2019

I'm here to apologize all of you who might have spended money buying screws just to find out they were not the right size. That's why I already corrected my mistake above, the screws can actually be M3, M3.5 or M4 (pick M4 if your 3d printer is not that precise and M3.5 if it is, I don't know if M3 would even work), I would go with M3.5 or M4. Sorry for all of you, it was my mistake
