Summary

Replication of the Three Cubes puzzle - a clever design by Kohno Ichiro.
The original can be found here: https://cubicdissection.com/collections/all-puzzles/products/three-cubes-canarywood

The three identical pieces must be assembled to form three solid cubes.

Replicated it from this video https://youtu.be/4zQmkyH0Mr0 and printed to share with friends.

In order to enjoy the puzzle you will need:

  • 3 x Pieces
  • 6 x Round Magnets (optional)

The puzzle can be solved without the magnets, but they certainly add to the fun.

2 CAD files are available:

  • Piece_Without_Magnets.stl - contains one piece to be printed without embedding magnets.

  • Three_Cubes.f3d - contains a parametric fusion 360 design of one piece with holes for magnets.
In fusion 360 after opening the file, using MODIFY->Change Parameters you can change the user parameters in order to fit the design to the dimensions of your magnets.

Magnets should be embedded as described in the pictures, pay attention to the polarity orientation (N and S in the picture are used to illustrate opposing poles of the magnets. Two magnets attract each other in opposing poles, and repel in identical poles).

I embedded 2 magnets inside each rectangle, because I found that one magnet does not provide enough force for satisfying handling of the puzzle.

All credit for the idea and the design goes to Kohno Ichiro.
