A well-known tabletop carbolite lamp, sometimes called a “Stallin's lamp” or “NKVD (KGB) lamp”, is present in many movies as an indispensable attribute of the desktop a bureaucrat, or as an attribute of interrogation in the NKVD.
Karbolite is similar to bakelite, the first industrial plastic material. "It will not burn. It will not melt." - was written on the front page of the Time-Magazine in September 1924. In Russia bakelite was synthesised in 1914.
The lamp was designed from pictures available online, I never had my own, but always dreamed to have it. It is ideally suited for reading documents.
