Summary

I've been using TUSH (The Ultimate Spool Holder) with great success and wanted to make a dry box around that concept. I also wanted to minimize the number of holes put into the sealed container.

I found the "Hefty 20qt Filament Box" project and decided to remix it for the Sterlite Gasket Box commonly found at Target. The 3D printed rollers just didn't work as well as I was used to on TUSH, so I decided to make some 608 bearing holders that onto the 5/16'' rod from Home Depot.

The filament taps require no screws and and only one 22mm hole per unit. I got this idea from the Hefty project also. I used these without change. I put the caps on the inside of the box when taps aren't in use.

BOM:
5/16 in.Plain Steel Round Rod from Home Depot (or any source..). Cut this to two lengths of 12.5'' each.
Sterlite 20qt Gasket Box with latches ($7.99): Target Item Number 002-02-0819
Desiccant Packets: Amazon B074BG1T5P
608 Bearings: Amazon B07211VH78

Print:
2 x sterlite-rod-holder
4 x 608-Sides (per roll of filament)
1 x Desiccate Basket (or just put the packets in the bottom)

Notes:

  1. To attach the Desiccant Basket I used Amazon B06XKDD4WS. Unfortunately it does fail every once in a while, so I'm looking for other solutions. Please comment if you have any ideas! For now, I just have desiccant packets in the bottom of the bin.
  2. To glue the bearing sides together I used Loctite Plastic Bonding System Amazon B000Y3LHXW.
  3. I used craft foam with adhesive on one side for the gasket seals. Michaels M10032002
