Summary

Why spend money when you can print The Ultimate Smartphone Mount that lets you use your camera tripod with your smartphone! When fitted with an elastic band, you can use anything from an old Iphone 6 up to large phablets like the Galaxy note range. If your phone is in a grippy case you can easily hold it vertically as well as horizontally.

This is a print in place, pre-assembled product comprised of two parts. It has been refined over several iterations to deliver consistently good performance in a robust package.

I've endeavoured to optimise this design so that it adheres to my principles of design for functional printing:

  1. No supports
  2. No finishing required (for functionality)
  3. No assembly (of printed components)
  4. No special components (I consider an elastic band to be a common house-hold object)

Hope you like it and make sure to share your makes & remixes!

There have been reported issues with downloading multiple files. If it doesn't work try one at a time or grab the zip archive which has them all in one place

UPDATE 210410: XL Variant

An XL variant has been added to suit up to 10" tablets in landscape mode.

There are two XL variants, the 208mm and 230mm to suit different sized print beds.
208mm grip range: 179mm
230mm grip range: 195mm

Rail Offset

Each version of the design is available in two different levels of parallel rail offset. The parallel rail offset prevents the two parts from fusing when printing.

• 0.2 mm offset runs smoother but needs finer settings to print taking longer
• 0.5 mm offset allows you to print faster with a larger nozzle and increase layer height

Versions

NUT

• Has a slot for 1/4" threaded nut
• Refer drawing for size
• Use 'NUT-INSERT' as a cover

BLANK

• Deliberately does not include any method of attachment
• You need to model the hot shoe that suits your tripod and join it to the tripod mount
• This is the best version in terms of usability
• Also available in .step for easy editing
• Don't forget to share your specific remix so others can enjoy it too

THREADED

• A 1/4" inch thread is modeled into the base of the mount
• This will let you direct fix to the tripod
• Be aware that the 1/4" thread can be challenging to print due to the fine detail
• Only print if you know your printer can achieve this level of detail

XCD

• The tripod mount (hot shoe) is modelled into the adapter
• It's modelled to suit this tripod here https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/xcd-3-way-swivel-head-tripod-large
