Summary

UPDATE 21/09/2022:
This is quite an old design, and I have made much superior versions since this model. However, me clumsily drowning/breaking my old laptop, I'm not sure if I have these files anymore.
Updated versions have superior corner cutting/corner-core magnets. I may redesign and post a version of this soonish if uni workload allows.

This truly was just an experiment to see if I could get a reasonable speedcube with my ender 3 and some patience! Please understand it will never be as good as any commercial flagship cubes :), though a good make with lots of sandpaper is easily sub-10-able. If you're interested in trying to build something for the fun of it, I can still highly reccommend making it!

If anyone wants to try making this, send me a message: I'll try to make a better version from my improved designs if I get enough interest!

P.S., the centre caps should have perfect meshing with the centres to fit, but depending on your printer tolerances, they may be too loose/too tight. To get a perfect fit, try printing one cap at a time slowly increasing/decreasing horizontal expansion setting as needed until you get a firm, but not stuck fit (you may need to file/sand off the z-scar first).

UPDATE 11/11/2020

The centres of the old design (SE III.1) fell out very easily, this has been fixed in the new version (SE III.2) with two new centre cap designs. The cap with a bevel on the underside works fine for me (new cap), but if you have any issues with it, you can print one without a bevel (tight cap).

The corners have larger feet now, more similar to modern speedcubes.

All the pieces now have larger 'cuts' in them, enabling more corner cutting.

Shawn from SpeedCubeReview mentioned in his video that his magnets didn't fit in the holes and the centres were tight on the screws (probably printer tolerances, everyone's printer including mine is different). The new parts have slightly larger holes, solving this problem.

I have also included 5 gcodes for the 5 parts (Ender 3, but may work on other printers). These have the best orientation, resolution and bed adhesion that I have come up with for each different part. The corner and edge files will need to be printed twice.

Please note that parts from the two versions are NOT interchangable!

Happy printing!
