Summary

Hi guys!

Taratula Pro Owners who have gotten ABL for their Printer, will have the Spare Z endstop as its not used anymore. This print will allow you to use the stock endstop and cables as a filament runout sensor, and is a FREE upgrade!

Attached is 2 versions of the file.

Version 1 uses four 4x2mm button magnets to hold the cover closed. it is also designed from the top cover to be printed in some kind of translucent material so you can see the indicator LED.

Version 2 uses 2 M3x6 Screws (included in the SPARES bag that came with the printer). It also has a hole in the cover so you dont have to print it in a translucent material to see the LED.

Both versions can be used without the front cover, in which case you dont need any extra hardware... its just not as pretty. You can use a little length of PTFE tube (pushfit) to both ends of the sensor, with the output end going into your extruder. Recommended to print body with flat side to the bed, and front of cover to bed.

For both versions, the original Z endstop wires need to be extended. just snip off anywhere and add length as desired. length depends on how you plan to do your cable management. Plug the filament runout sensor to Z_max

Edit your firmware to include the Filament runout sensor. i found this video from Teaching Tech to be quite useful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwHpXaj_6xE
follow the instructions, but in our case, we will configure and use the Z_max slot for our runout sensor.

Go to Configuration.h and configure Filament_runout_sensor as shown in the photos included.

You also need to go to pins_ramps.h and

  1. comment out the Z_max_pin,
  2. Find Fil_runout_pin and edit to 19

This was done on the stock MKS GenL that came with the TTPro. If you changed your board im pretty sure the instructions should be similar, but do check and comment if its different for you and let other people know as well.
