Spent entirely too long designing and perfecting this. It's a two-part container, designed to be configurable to any size & shape. I designed this gorgeous tessellated outside pattern that continues through the bottom part and reflects light with a fascinating intricacy.
The top is printed classically– taking ~1.5h to print the D40xH50 size. The bottom, however, is designed for vasemode printing (Cura calls this 'spiralize outer contour') and can be printed in half the time.
It fits so perfectly that even the lightest side slowly slowly slides and spins 'round free. It's immensely satisfying.
(click for gfycat link, the sound is the best part)
- print with low layer heights for optimal smoothness. I use 0.1 or 0.12mm
- vase-mode / ‘spiralize outer contour’ is required for the bottom/inside part!
- use ‘concentric’ bottom later to make the top & bottom look even better
- I prefer dual-color matchups but that’s up to you! Remember the bottoms are the fastest to reprint..
I designed this in my cad program of choice: onshape, which means anyone can change&edit the design! I even added configuration variables for everything.. so no cad skillz are needed to generate a custom version of any shape and size. Go to the design to see in 3d & customize away– but to download I believe youneed a free account
Please post 'em! Really! Take a quick cameraphone photo of your print in all its glory and show it off! Plus it really helps get this design out there to the world.
Designing stuff is fun but interacting with cool people and hearing about their adventures is better. I can generate any variation / engraving easily, message me on discord/telegram and/or leave a comment and let's make your perfect version. I only ask that you post a make!
If you'd like the CAD or STEP file too, no problem. I've already helped a bunch of great folks! Send me a ping
