Not wanting to waste the used coffee grounds from my Tassimo coffee maker, I made a little punch and die that will cut the aluminum foil off of the used pods allowing me to easily extract the grounds. I can then add the grounds to my compost to help out my garden.
Depending on your local recycling program, this may also assist you in separating these materials for recycling. Many recycling programs don't accept these pods unless they are separated.
I had a mini arbor press that allowed me to bolt the die to the base and the punch to the arbor. The forces are low enough that a simple 3d printed arbor press may work. Possibly something along the lines of this would work: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1178187
I have also included a fairly accurate model of the 16mm high Tassimo coffee pod that can be used for other designs (holders, organizers, etc).
