Simplified lower shock mount (BF8/BF9 in the Egress kit) for the Avante chassis based vehicles (Avante, Avante 2001, Vanquish, VQS, and Egress).
The original Egress kit introduced a modified lower front arm mount which positioned the front shocks more upright in comparison with the Avante/Vanquish. This bracket had several bends and placed the shock mount perpendicular to the front of the car and moved the shock mount further inboard on the arm. In the re-release kits, however, Tamiya did not include these brackets and instead reverted to the shock mounting used on the Avante/Vanquish. This mounting is less than ideal with the High Cap shocks as it places the front arms level and at a fairly low angle - which a very progressive front end that tends to bounce rather than dampen.
I based this design on a plate that was developed several years ago that TamiyaClub user mheald had made (dimensional pictures posted to TamiyaClub by mtbkym01 - https://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?/topic/94303-egress-bf8-and-bf9/ ). This design is simplified in comparison with the original, but places the shock in close proximity to where it was originally. My design is 3 mm thick, and replaces the 3 mm spacer that is called out in the kit between the ball stud and the arm. It is also not specific to the side of the buggy (can be used on the LH or RH).
Hardware needed:
QTY=2 M3 locknuts
QTY=2 M3x8 screws
The holes should be close in size to what is required, but may need to be reamed depending on your printers tolerances. The geometry will self locate on the arm. It is easier to attach the shock to the plate first, and then attach it to the arm. You will likely need to increase the oil viscosity in the shock but the damping action is vastly improved AND the arms are now below level providing better droop. When printed in PETG, it is sufficiently stiff to support the shock. I have not tested it on a VQS, but a taller front tower may be required.
