This is a magnetic system to store Star Wars Shatterpoint Figures. You can store both large (50mm) and small (40 mm) bases in the same box. You can store the figures by squad with most of their cards. The boxes stack. They even stick together with magnets. There is even a lid included in the design.
Why another storage system? I wanted a quick setup system that would fit in the original box, protect the miniatures and double as a quick display system. So armed with a 3D printer and a plan, I made storage boxes that can contain the whole squad with mixed bases, the initiative and attack cards. Ergo, I don't have to go looking through stacks and stacks of cards to find them. If I want Obi-Wan's, I just go to his squad box and sort through the six cards.
How did I do it? Well I created large mounts with a small mount inside, i.e dual purpose mounts. The five figure box (4x40mm + 1x40or50mm bases SP - 150x98mm) can store five small base figures or four small base with one large base. Just as shown in the top full color images of the "Hello There" squad pack (with guest Battle Droids). Another box can store four small base figures or two small base with two large base figures.
You will note there are two widths of boxes, 83 and 98 mm. This is so you can fit three boxes to a row and two rows worth of boxes in the original shatter point box. Three 98 mm wide boxes just doesn't fix. two 98mm along with one 83 mm, should jussssssssst fit.
The are designed to use 10x2mm Amazon magnets to keep the figures and boxes in place. Just force fit the 10mm magnets into the holes. Depending on how well your printer is dialed in you may need to add a touch of super glue or adjust the X-Y size +/- 2%. Of course you could use a wood burning kit with a 10mm head to heat up the magnets and slowly push them into position. :) Just don't take too long about it, overheating the magnets tends to weaken them.
I glue a thick M5 washer to each base with super glue so they stick. I buy them at Ace hardware for $0.27 each.
This is inspired by bfish1983's most excellent star wars legion storage system (thing 3230819).
Designed and printed on the M3D Promega printer.
9/14/2024 - included a thinner storage box for just four small bases.
9/15/2024 - Made the boxes 2mm narrower, so they fit better in the box
12/3/2024 - Made fitting improvements to the lids.
