Summary

This started as a Remix of 3E8's Star Trek Catan Ferengi set (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1236468/#comments)
I loved the Idea so much I am working on a complete set! (Klingon, Romulan, maybe Vulcan who knows where I will stop.)

For my printer I needed some tighter tolerances on the original marauder model so that they would fit snug and be removable. (Currently the marauders would just fall off.) Well that got me thinking, why not give each race their own custom base as well!

I printed the bases at 25% infill to add a little weight, with 4 top and bottom layers it worked out great.

Currently I am working a custom star-base for the Ferengi, as there does not seem to be one from any of the shows. Once that is complete and passes my wife approval (this set is for her) I will upload it here. Then start the entire process over again for the next race. :D

Update 5/9/18
Ferengi Outpost and Starbase are done. A few things,
1.I am very new to modeling so please forgive the roughness of my designs><
2.The Starbase does need supports to print. I will include one sliced for no support but I have not tested this one yet.
3.The Starbase is intentionally larger than normal. I may resize it later if there is interest or if my wife changes her mind about the scale... which ever happens first. :)

Update 5/31/18

Uploaded pictures of my prints in MakerGeeks Translucent Orange PET-G.

Klingon attack cruiser was scraped and modeled from scratch due to poor print-ability at scale. Same is true for the Cardassian Galor Cruiser.

Once my printer is done with a commission job, I will be printing out the Klingon. if all goes well I will upload the models after that. :D

Update 6/11/18

The Romulans are finished!! (this time in MakerGeeks Translucent Green PETG)

There was so much to do for these guys it was painfully tedious!

Ship: The Warbird originated from MeslesitsFleetYards (Find this model and more here on his Deviantart page: http://metlesitsfleetyards.deviantart.com/) After Converting to STL I spent more time that I would like to admit filling in the hull of the ship. At first I left it empty and did some minor supports and fill for the stand but at this scale it was SO thin it looked very bad. So I decided I would fill it in and reinforce the wispy bits.... WOW I did not know what I was getting myself into! I am sure a more experienced 3d modeler is laughing at me spending 2 weeks trying to do this. >< Supports needed!

Starbase: The Starbase top is my own design base off some reference images I found online. It prints well and overall I was happy with the details. Supports recommended.

Outpost: The outpost is also based on some reference images I found online. Sadly, my original design for it was much cooled (IMO) but completely unprintable. So, I hybridized it to what you see now. Originally it connected to normal bases like the ships but in a moment of frustration I mentioned to my wife the idea of fusing them and she asked me to do it! So back to designing I went and when I printed it she liked it better... So, I made it fancier and it is now the outpost... :)

Ship Stand: The stand is similar to the Ferengi one, but carries the Romulan crest.

Klingons are also complete, I have printed out 1 Ship and it came out great. I tried a 5 pack and it failed measurably. (I may need to re-calibrate, my first layer is looking a little... off.) Once I have gotten consistent successful prints for all the models I will upload those as well. :)

Happy printing!!

Update 6/13/18

I redid the Romulan Outpost and Starbase "joint". The V2 pices print much better and connect smother.

Klingon are printing as we speak, if all goes well I will have them uploaded in a week to so. :)

Update 6/18/18

pa'vetlhDaq HoD yo'!

That's right the Klingon attack fleet is here! Bring your flush cutters and some CA glue you will need them!!

As I am sure you have noticed, the more of these I make the more intricate they become. These are made in MakerGeeks Transparent Red PETG, they are much more red in person the shine makes them look a little orange on camera.

Ship: Klingon Attack Cruiser- This Ship has been modeled from scratch to make it printable at the proper scale. The amount of failed prints and test pieces filled a small ziplock >< Supports needed, heck required! You will have a lot of clean up on the underside so keep your flush cutters handy.

Ship Stand: Since the Klingon crest is already circular at its core I scaled it to the proper size and blended with the stand model. result... awesome! (IMO)

Outpost: I modeled this after a few pictures I found online for a Klingon outpost, I love the way it came out. Now on this one beware... I had SO many failed prints it is not funny, the magic happened when I deiced to try a raft for the first time ever... result... perfect print. So for me it was Raft + Supports (1mm auto generated in S3D) I could not be happier with them.

Starbase: I modeled after similar images I found online for a Klingon outpost. The core prints PERFECT for me every time, no cleanup needed! This model I am super proud of for how it turned out.

Starbase Arms: This is where the CA glue comes in... While the Core of the starbase is a walk it the park, these arms are more like a difficult mountain climb. It sucks the entire way but worth it in the end. Print these laying on their side and with plenty of support! The connecting arm is a little long so that you can cut the end off with your flush cutters so that you get a clean connection to the Core. About 50% of these would fail when printing, some would come off the bed and others would finish but when cleaning split in half. >< take your time and go slow. You will be glad you did.

Once you have them all cleaned up do a test fit and then add some CA glue and put them back together.

Cardassians are also Complete! But I am out of filament! >< Well at-least out of the color I want. Since I have a policy to only share files I have printed myself (so that I know they are printable) This will be on hold till then.

I am still working on the Vulcan's and the Borg. Both are a challenge, the Vulcan don't have Space Stations of their own (at least none I can find pictures of) and neither really do the Borg. >< So these 2 are going to take a lot of time for me to model from scratch. If anyone has pictures of a Vulcan SS please let me know google has failed me ><

Oh I also have an updated Thief, I will be sharing that one soon. (It's a secret!)

Update 8/22/18

The new Thief has arrived, or in this case The Doomsday Machine!!

The original came from MeslesitsFleetYards (Find this model and more here on his Deviantart page: http://metlesitsfleetyards.deviantart.com/). After it was converted, cleaned up, and sized, I added the mounting holes for the stands. This figure will work just fine with only 1 stand but because of its length and tendency to tip I added an optional second one. I printed The Doomsday Machine "face" down with the tail up, and could not be happier.

In other news, my filament has finally arrived so the Cardassians will hopefully be getting printed this week and as long as it works properly I will be uploading soon.

I have still been tinkering with the Vulcan and the Borg. We shall see if those get finished :)

Update 11/26/19

Wow it has been over a YEAR since my last update... time goes by way to fast! I wonder if there is an old Bird-of-Prey I can borrow around her................ Cardassians are complete! (pictures will be posted once I unpack from the move )

Ship: Galor Class - My original idea was to remix the one from MeslesitsFleetYards (Find this model and more here on his Deviantart page: http://metlesitsfleetyards.deviantart.com/). But his model was SO detailed it just would not work out. So, I went back into Fusion 360 and modeled this one from scratch. I could not be happier!! It came out EXACTALY how I wanted and printer wonderfully! Supports are needed but easily removed

Ship Stand: Went back to my original design with this one, cleaned up and solidified the Cardassian crest and it was good to go!

Outpost: V7… of this design….. I lost track of how many of these I have made… neve quite happy with them. This one works functionally, Prints in 1 piece with supports and all in all is OK. Not much reference material available so I’m happy with it, for now at least. I can upload a earlier version if people would like one with removable arms, for support free printing.

Starbase: Now this is where the FUN starts!!! Welcome to the fleet Terok Nor! Or as some of you Terrans will know it… Deep Space 9!! This is where I have been spending most of my time, I started out with a MeslesitsFleetYards model, but it was far to wispy and thin, to many details for this scale. So, using it as a frame I remodeled Terok Nor and designed a mounting point for the outpost. Tried printing it, total failure EVERY time. Even if the print would complete the supports were hopeless and the mounting point was garbage.
Then I got the idea to separate the Docking arms like I have on the Klingon base. And after some LONG painstaking edits, we arrive here, and it works GREAT!

Docking Arms: To Glue or not to glue… that is the question! First be warned these are a SMALL part and can break if not handled carefully. So, if you decide NOT to glue them onto the base then you can easily replace them, but they are easy to lose. If you DO glue them you will not lose them, but they are hard to replace… The choice is yours!!

Happy printing my friends!

Update 8/25/2021 ( thanks for sticking with me!! You all are the reason I am still here!)

Captain! Long-range sensors are picking up a... transwarp signature! Contact in... "We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile"

They’re here at last, The Borg are finished! Printed in Matter Hackers Maker Series Blue PLA. These look SO good in person, but I just could not get a good picture to save my life it felt like. Being the kind of person I am, I could not decide which ships to use. There are so many good options and picking just 3 was torture! Then I realized it’s the BORG we can adapt.. :) So here you go everyone, you can pick your fleet or even mix and match! Thank you all of sticking with this project after so long without new content!
P.s. I hope your printer is calibrated well because if so, these will print and nest perfectly with no cleanup. If not, you may have some work ahead of you.

First off credit where credit is due. Thank you to Pawel Malysz https://www.thingiverse.com/m_collectable/designs who made a GREAT remixed my DS9 design. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4397357
While looking over their designs I saw 2 Borg ships had not considered, a pyramid and a colony vessel. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4397498 , https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4390696 These designs inspired me to create my own, and boy did it take a while for these details! ><

Outpost: The Borg colony ship. This design is based off of some work by Pawel Malysz (see link above) When I saw it I knew I had to incorporate it. It was to perfect! The idea was to nest the outpost and Starbase but with any other race it would not have worked well. The Borg allow for it to work flawlessly. Print in place no supports needed.

Starbase 1: Borg Pyramid. Inspired by Pawel's design. Instead of connecting to the top of the outpost it nests over it perfectly. The clearance is very small to allow for a stable piece on the board with minimal wobble. I do recommend a little support in the center for an ideal fit but its up to you. :)

Starbase 2. Borg Cube. Took a few hours of wanting to throw my laptop but its finally done! I knew someone would be upset if I did not have a cube in here somewhere, so here it is! Same Idea as the pyramid to nest over the colony ship. Prints wonderfully and makes a fantastic piece. (supports recommended)

Ship 1. Borg Sphere. Yikes >< I knew this would be hard but WOW it was a mental stretch! Out of every model I have made this one caused the most mental anguish. I lost count of the variants. Multiple times I quit and decided to scrap the project and then just printed my only model that was finished. But thanks to my wife whose first words upon seeing my V1 were " That’s not very good..." OUCH!! (first time she has EVER said that about something I made) that drove me to the brink of obsession to make a good Sphere model and here it is :) Thanks Hun!

Ship 2. Borg Cube. Same model as the previous cube only smaller to keep scale on the board. So, take your pick how you want to build your fleet :) Print flat down for a good print, BUT if you can print it along one of the edges at a 45 degree angle it will look even better! (Raft may help.)

Ship Stand: The stand is like the Ferengi and Romulan one but using the Borg Crest. If anyone has a cool idea for this, Please share! I feel the Borg deserve something more, something cemeterial… I just ran out of ideas ><
