Spool Mount System
This spool system was designed for wall-mounting a large array of spools for quick and easy access. (And who doesn't want to show off their collection?)
With the spools mounted flush to the wall, re-winding filament after unloading is quick and precise. Spool rotation is visible from any angle at a glance to ensure the filament is feeding properly.
Spools can be mounted to a backing board or wall in a staggered grid to maximize use of space. Sized for #6 flat screws.
Each part of the system is optimized for sturdiness with a minimum of material, smooth spool rotation and reliable printing without any supports.
Three different spool cores are included, sized for: MakerBot 1kg and 500g spools with a 2-inch core, plus a 3rd-party spool with a 1.5 inch core.
The spool mount is compatible with all three cores, which fit snugly in the mount to eliminate any wobble.
For MakerBot 1kg spools, which are more recessed at the center on one side, a “crown” offset part is also included. This is snapped onto each spool and keeps it mounted with the correct margin between it and the mounting surface consistent so the spool can be oriented for clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation.
Tip: many spools in an array can feed filament at a good angle into the 3D printer, but to correct a steep angle of entry, the filament can be guided around adjacent spools or swapped and remounted in another position.
