The spool holder file included had too much friction during printing putting unnecessary load on the extruder. I set out to make a spool holder that uses bearings for smooth filament feed. This design was based on Hatchbox 1 kg spools, it may work with other brands but I've never tried.
The required materials are:
2 Bearings: 4 mm shaft Diam, 13 mm Outer Diam, 5 mm Height
1 Shaft: 4 mm shaft Diam, 100 mm Length
Light hammer taps are required to assemble the 4 mm steel shaft to the spool holder stand.
It may be difficult to get the bearing to fit into the bottom of the spool holder due to possible warping or first layer issues. Light sanding and light hammer taps usually gets the bearing in. Light hammer taps should be sufficient for the top bearing.
When the bearings are inserted, slide the spool holder onto the steel shaft and gravity does the rest.
Simply push spool onto spool holder and it should slide on and latch.
Enjoy!
