UPDATE!!! I have added some new side supports for increased rigidity!
As I started printing taller and taller objects, I noticed the Y axis had a lot more movement than the X. The issue was the side bracing was not as ideal as the bracing on the front and rear of the machine as the span for each member was half that of the front and back. If you already printed the Spartan, you can print the additional replacement/additional pieces and add them to your printer. Just print the contents of the "Additional side supports" zip. For new builds, you don't have to worry since the old parts have been replaced. You can see the picture of the CAD model to see the new support layout. These new supports really tie the machine together and even pull it into proper alignment. The rigidity in the Y axis is worlds better with this upgrade.
This more than doubles the height of the The 100 3d printer and requires no modifications to the frame to install! It was supposed to make 300mm of z height, thus the “Spartan” name, but it’s actually A LOT taller - 385mm!!!!
You will need:
Two 500mm linear rods and two 450mm z screws.
A lot more of the screws, nuts, and heat inserts that you used to build the standard printer.
I also included new bed "wings" that take extended-length LM08LUU bearings. I never got my bed to move right with standard bearings. Use the Fushi brand ones.
These supports are designed for the 1.1v of the printer. I do not know if they will work on other versions.
Update - I added a Damper that you can fill with sand or lead shot to help quell vibrations. Its not needed but something you can play with if you wish. You can read more about it here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6723727
